Welcome to ORBinals

A collection of 16 animated, dynamic and evolving ASCII orb artworks and one 1/1, inscribed to the bitcoin timechain in Febuary 2023. Ten ORBinals were auctioned via singular.art (formerly img.art) in March 2023 at a closing price of 0.065 BTC per piece and found their way to incredible collectors from communities like GrailersDAO and Flamingo DAO.

Each ORBinal is dynamically generated from the exact same 10KB html(+ js) file which uses its ordinal's inscription hash as partial entropy input.

The 1/1 ORBinal is the first inscription of the series (#44668). It is based off the bitcoin genesis block hash and unlike the others, will look exactly like this, forever.

The 16 ORBinals from the Collection on the other hand, are randomly assigned one of six colour schemes...

...and one of six patterns. There's also a chance that an ORBinal is generated with a bold font-weight, resulting in a thicker pattern.

Then, every year (on the 1st of Jan to be exact) and for as long as the bitcoin timechain is ticking, the year difference from 2023 will alter the entropy, resulting in a different colour/pattern/thickness combination.

Evolving yearly with the Bitcoin timechain for ~eternity.

The ASCII characters are animated using a custom minified and inlined version of ertdfgcvb's incredible open-source play.core library, without which this ordinal rabbit hole culmination would not have been possible.
